New PurPest paper published in Frontiers in Horticulture

new paper

Our partners Ali Karimi and Jürgen Gross, from the Institute for Plant Protection in Fruit Crops and Viticulture at the Julius Kühn-Institut, have published a new article in Frontiers in Horticulture, on the "Development and validation of an innovative headspace collection technique: volatile organic compound patterns emitted by different developmental stages of Halyomorpha halys."

This paper covers the development of an innovative device made for collecting odors of insect and plants, together with new findings on the headspace composition of the fruit and vegetable pest Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB). The team will use this device and the generated information to identify specific chemical signatures, which fit to specific life stages of the BMSB, and use them as biomarkers for on-site detection of this invasive pest in shipping containers and/or agricultural areas. This publication, which is part of the PurPest project, is available in open access.
