Two group members gave an oral presentation at the 38^th Annual Meeting of the International Society of Chemical Ecology (23-27 July 2023), in Bengaluru, India:

1. Carla Arce, Marine Mamin, Gregory Röder, Arooran Kanagendran, Emmanuel Defossez, Sergio Rasmann, Terunobu Akiyama, Kosuke Minami, Genki Yoshikawa, Wen Tan, Felipe Lopez-Hilfiker, Ted Turlings - Odor sensors to detect and identify agricultural pests for crop protection.
2. Kathrin Altermatt, Carla M. Arce, Gregory Roeder, Ted Turlings - Attraction of a parasitoid to volatiles of Zambian maize accessions attacked by the fall armyworm.

At the 2^nd Workshop on MSS Science & Technology which was held onsite and online at NIMS (Japan) and EPFL (Neuchâtel, Switzerland), Marine Mamin also gave an oral presentation about: Odor sensors to detect and identify agricultural pests for crop protection (7 July 2023) - Programme.

On the 14^th of June, the brand new VOC collector manufactured by FLUSYS arrived safe and sound at INIAV.

The Julius Kühn Institute (JKI) in Dossenheim, Germany, hosted the workshop on volatile collection with the Fragrance Collection Device, manufactured by Flusys.

From the 23^th to 25^th of May 2023, PurPest team members were very welcomed by Jürgen Gross and his great team.

Ted Turlings gave an oral presentation on “Herbivore-induced plant volatiles and how they can be exploited for crop protection?” for the Scientific Days (JS2023), held at Sorbonne University, in Paris, France (9-10 February 2023).

Tomás Cavaco, who has a degree in Agronomy from the University of Lisbon, carried out a training program in the Nematology lab of INIAV, dealing with wood samples infected by the pinewood nematode, Bursaphelenchus xylophilus. Tomás was also involved in several stages of the PurPest project and acquired skills in chemical analysis.

Instituto Nacional de Investigação Agrária e Veterinária, I. P. (INIAV) - Portugal

On the 12^th and 13^th of January 2023, a meeting was held at Kringler Gjestegård, Åsveien 775, Maura, Norway, to launch the EU-funded project “PurPest – Plant pest prevention through technology-guided monitoring and site-specific control”, with 43 members from 10 countries present.

The EU project officer, Antonio Pérez-Rendón, joined the meeting remotely. During the two-day event, partners discussed the different work packages, deadlines, the use of a platform for data sharing and networking with other projects.

The stay also included a visit to the plant import/control station at Blomsterringen. The project coordinator, Andrea Ficke, from the Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research (NIBIO), closed the meeting by blowing out the candle.
